你們都是超級學生

Yes. I perfectly agree with Nancy. The judges will have a hard time as all the entries are of superb quality - 極高水平的製作.

Every bit of your contributions in the wiki Collaboration Page is so enjoyable. I cannot help from LOL (Facebook language for “Laugh Out Loud”). 你們的分享,令我們覺得又開心又驚喜.

總之,你們都是超級學生(Super-student): Serious, hardworking and painstakingly careful to every tiny bit of detail. So, a big applause to each of you!

Antonia

Hurray! We did it!

We will soon start our community rating for the best video, photo & blog awards.

I am sure it should be a harsh task for our judges because all of yours are valuable and interesting.

We really appreciate all of your effort and contributions to make this web 2.0 training an amazing experience to us all. We hope that you will find this program fun and useful!

Once again, congratualtions!

Yes, we did it! Hurray! Hurray!

A short poem for week 5

Library photos shared on Flickr,
Carry many of your familiar faces.
Poise, yet oozing with youngness and vigour,
Leading our users through the information mazes.

The photos make our hearts grow fonder,
Of all the people, stories and places.
With Web 2.0 tools, we explore and ponder
Capturing our memories as technology embraces.

Week 4: Sharing your VIP Interview

This week, the VIP interview videos uploaded to YouTube will enter into the Best Video Award. 掌聲鼓勵! 拍拍, 拍拍...

After viewing some of your videos, we really appreciate the great effort in sharing your valuable memories with us. 極之精彩! It is also exciting to find our Share Your Memory @ HKUL Wiki Page enriched with more collaborative content. This is the the exact spirit of Knowledge Sharing!

From our own experience, we find that it would be useful and convenient to have a camera stand when recording the interview. 腳架回定了攝錄機或相機之後, 在錄影時, 我們大可專心訪問. If you have not yet recorded yours, you may wish to try this as well. Don't worry, you may borrow a camera stand from AV Department.

We look forward to viewing all the videos soon. 期待更多的驚喜和興奮!

Web 2.0 Seminar by Dr Bob Fox

There was a big crowd at yesterday's Web 2.0 seminar. We had to add extra chairs along the aisles to accommodate the avid learners.
Dr. Bob Fox gave an overview of the prominent Web2.0 tools and showed a number of good practices in teaching and learning. You might find some of the tools familiar (e.g. Wiki, RSS, Twitter), while some others new (e.g. Wordle, Newsy, Streetview in Google map). I hope this seminar has brought you a recollection of the tools covered so far in this training programme, yet opens up new horizons in other Web 2.0 tools out there.

The powerpoint presentation has been uploaded to Slideshare, another Web 2.0 tool, which allows sharing ppt, doc or pdf files for public or private access.

At the occasion, the Librarian presented a commemorative book plates to Dr Fox a token of thanks. The book title is Wired for learning: an educator’s guide to Web 2.0. Perhaps you may be interested to read this book sometime:)

The Challenging Week 3

充滿挑戰的第三周 - Some of you found Week 3 materials challenging, yet useful in the future. Well... perhaps that is a good sign because there is substance in what you learn and the tools are practical for future application:)

兩個小貼示 - Just two quick tips on perfecting your skills in the use of these tools:

  1. When importing the calendar to the blog, you can test out the size of the calendar. The dimension indicated in our quick guide is 550 x 400 pixels, which shows the entire calendar on my computer. But, for some of you, the dimension could be too large. With this, you will not be able to show the "Agenda" option (on the far right hand side of the calendar) which allows you to show only dates with events, a very handy feature.

  2. Adding Google Blog to your iGoogle Homepage. Most of you will find that the page goes blank after clicking on the "Add it Now" button. For blogger, you will need to do one extra step. Tips are as follows:
    (a) Enter "Embed blogger" to search for the gadget.
    (b) Click on "Add it Now" button.
    (c) Return to your iGoogle.
    (d) On the top right hand corner of the window for Blogger, click on the down arrow icon. And then, select "Edit settings".
    (e) Enter the URL of your blogger address.

誰是你的專訪貴賓? By talking with some of you, we note that there has been quite a bit of excitement when inviting the Library VIPs - "Who will be able to provide a captivating story?" "Will this colleague be willing to accept my invitation?" - Our training team was able to feel the pulse and excitement too! You know, it has been an exciting experience to unveil who's the Library VIP from each of your Google Documents. We do look forward to the interview and watch the stories on Youtube in the coming week! 這個星期會更精彩 !

Twitter 好玩嗎?

Did you have fun with Twitter?

星期二的分享會, 我們玩了兩個twitter遊戲 . In this warm-up game on Tuesday sharing session, we administered two games – hangman and date guess of a library event. Some of our participants played on-site in the e-Lab while others communicated with us from their office. Many of us were engrossed in the games. The word for hangman was a simple word, yet surprisingly difficult to guess. It took us quite some time to figure out what it is. The date guess seems a bit easier. Participants were able to swiftly nail down to a particular month and then the date.

星期四安排了真正的twitter遊戲. Each of the real twitter games on Thursday was completed within half an hour. This probably reflects that colleagues, having gone through the warm-up games, have mastered their twitter skills. And, apparently, this also shows that colleagues are familiar with the library and are aware of library events. If you would like to know who the winners are, please visit http://twitter.com/memory_hkul, or check out your Google Reader where you have set up the RSS for this twitter account.

Through playing the twitter games last week, we hope you’ve become more familiar with what microblogging is. Twitter is fun to use. Yet it also serves a practical communication tool for you to quickly send or receive updates.

We will be moving on to Week 3, which will focus on 3 Google products. The tools are very practical and will help facilitate you to share different kinds of information. So, have a nice week ahead!

Week 2: Alerts

This week, our Team has been having quite a bit of fun. To prepare for the twitter game, we need to design a list of questions. So, we brainstormed ourselves for interesting questions about this library. For some questions, we didn’t really have the answer right away - we had to ask our “Library VIPs” around us. This has already been an interesting experience for us.

What’s more, to ensure the smooth running of the event, we had a twitter rehearsal ourselves. We’ve experimented with replying each other’s tweets and tested out the speed of twitter. It was a great way to know more about twitter ourselves.

We are now preparing in hosting the twitter game. And, we look forward to seeing you at the sharing session this week (9 March, Tuesday). Hope you will share the same excitement as we do.

Introducing our Team Members

Hi everybody! We are the training team for this Web 2.0 programme.

Our team has 6 members:
- Nancy Chan (Collection Development)
- Amy Kok (Reference)
- Diana Tsui (Reference)
- Kevin Yiu (Systems)
- Antonia Yiu (Information Literacy) - Team Leader

Dr Bob Fox (Faculty of Education) is also with us. He provides us with valuable advice in the organization of this programme.

May we introduce ourselves to you.

Nancy Chan (Collection Development)

Meet my little helper, Lok Lok (樂樂), who was sitting at my desk in CD Office!

Before being the Business & Economics Faculty Librarian, I joinned Librarian's Office, Systems & Reference for different positions and duties. My major responsibilites now are to build library resources on Business & Economics and provide relevant library services & user education to my faculty.

Amy Kok (Reference)

Hello everyone! My name is Amy. I work at Reference Department. My job duties are helping users to locate information, maintaining the reference collection, assisting in setting up exhibition and giving library tours to visitors. When you see me at the Reference Counter, please come & meet!!!

Diana Tsui (Reference)

Being one of the team members in Reference Department, I work closely with my colleagues in answering reference enquiries, conducting library courses, preparing research guides and giving library tours to visitors. Before joining Reference, I worked in Dental Library since I have been employed in HKU. I am lucky enough to have working experience in branch as well as in Main Library where I find myself quite happy to serve different types of users.

來看看我的兩個小淘氣 - 樂衡和梓衡, 他們可是很愛玩的小孩呢!

Kevin Yiu (Systems)

Hi there. This is Kevin from Systems, HKUL. My responsibilities are on call support, public PC maintenance, EZ Proxy setup, WebBridge setup...etc.
We can use web 2.0 technology to preserve our memory. For example, we can use wiki to "Share Your Memory @ HKUL". And here i want to share the photos of the tree at 開心公園. This is one of the landmark of HKU.

May 2008

Nov 2008 (top right hand corner)

April 2009

and finally...June 2009

If we are using flicr. We can tag the photos with keywords. Share it to the rest of the world (perhaps aliens on Mars)We can only included some of the web 2.0 platform in our training programme. If you know any web 2.0 platform that is interesting, please let us know. Thanks!

Perhaps you may be interested in “Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us” youtube video.

Yiu, Antonia (Information Literacy Knowledge Management)

我跟大學圖書館有幾十年的情懷. 這絕非說笑. When I was a student, the New Wing has not been erected. So, you can imagine it has been a long long time since my first acquaintance with HKU Library. In those days, the main entrance of the library facing north has a flight of staircase leading to the Main Building. Both sides of the staircase were greens dotted with small shrubs of azaleas (杜鵑花), which would bloom as exam time approaches. I can still remember the days when we need to line up in the early hours outside the library in hope to secure a place to study and prepare for our exams. Friends wishing to get a healthy tan while studying would opt for one of the seats on the 4th floor facing north. For those who prefer a garden view would go for the 1st floor facing south. From there, you will be overlooking the little "garden" with a path that would lead you to the Haking Wong complex - 有些往事是多麼的有趣!

If I could bring today's technology back to the old days, perhaps I will be able to share all these memories with you more vividly. It is not too late to do it in 2010 though - 只要有心, 再配合科技, 這是有可能的! We can capitalize on the Web 2.0 technology and share valuable memories about this library. And, that is one of the aims of this training programme.

我也是一個初學者 - I have to admit that I am a novice in Web 2.0. But, while preparing this training programme, I've come to learn a bit more about the Web 2.0 tools. And, what's more important, I find learning so much fun, especially with the wonderful team spirit in our OP group.

So, we sincerely welcome you aboard this programme! Let us join the fun and play with these Web 2.0 tools. So, wish you will enjoy this Share Your Memory @ HKUL training programme. Have fun! 請享受這個學習的過程.
